PROCESS OF JEWELRY MANUFACTURING

The process for manufacturing of jewelry requires several steps.

DESIGNING
The process of jewelry designing includes crafting, creating, and producing designs of jewelry. Jewelry designing is the prime step of manufacturing the jewelry item. Jewelry designs are made by the professional jewelry designers, who have high knowledge about the designs of pieces of jewelry. The designs of jewelry created by jewelry designers are made on the basis of future trends of jewelry and on the basis of the stability of jewelry in the future market.

CASTING
Some jewelry items like buckles, pins, and other accessories are discovered because of functional and practical items. There are some jewelry items, whose functional and practical uses are diminished.

CREATION OF MOLD/ CAST
The creation of a cast is the requirement of casting. Mold is the reversible shape of jewelry, is made from refractory material.

CREATION OF METAL ALLOY
While making the jewelry, metal like gold is not used in jewelry manufacturing because it contains pure twenty-four karat metal because of its softness.

METHODS OF CASTING
The casting of jewelry can be done by some popular methods, classified under.

LOST WAX CASTING
This is the most common method used for casting techniques. This casting method is made from melted wax and has been covered with fired clay.

SAND CASTING
Sand casting is the oldest form of casting technique. The technique is natural and has greensand which is packed with wood and metal. Mold is used to remove the casting.

SHELL-MOLD CASTING
Shell mold casting is similar to sand casting, which has a mixture of sand and resin, and holds grain. Its process is very cheap and has a good surface and geometry. This technique is made up of metal and has a two-piece pattern and is heated and coated with spray.

PLASTER-MOLD CASTING

Plaster mold casting is similar to sand casting. This plaster is the substitute for sand. The plaster is composed of 70-80% gypsum and 20-30% water. The plaster has a good surface and accuracy. It is basically used for metals like aluminum, zinc, and copper and has the base of alloy.

CERAMIC-MOLD CASTING
It is similar to plaster mold casting. It has ceramic material and can be used instead of plaster. It also provides casting of good quality.

DIE CASTING
Die casting is the process of forcing the molten metal under high pressure and has steel molds. These molds are also called as dies.

CENTRIFUGAL CASTING
Centrifugal casting is the process of casting the molds that are attached to the outside edge of the tube. This metal is liquid in form.

CONTINUOUS CASTING
Continuous casting is the process in which metal casts are being produced by the casting on a regular basis. In this, liquid metal has been poured into the mold from the end.

DEVESTMENT
It is the process of removal of casting investment from the casting tree. It is done with the help of two methods, they are Dry devestment and Wet devestment. In wet devestment, water has been used to break, and in dry devestment stripping devices has been used.

FINISHING
It is the process through which the surface of the piece has been cleaned and polished. It is an important part of the process of jewelry manufacturing because basically, all the jewelry items need finishing. It can be done in various different steps to modify the jewelry.

METAL FINISHING
It cover-ups all the operational activities that alter the surface of the metal piece. Metal finishing can be done after casting of metal. Metal finishing can be done in various processes to clean the metal properly in a good way. It includes many things of finishing like cleaning, plating, and texturing.

STONE FINISHING
It cover-ups all the operational activities that alter the characteristics of the gemstones to attain some property. It is performed after the process of mining of the gemstone. If a stone has been cut and polished in a good way, then it has been considered a beautiful finishing of the stone.
